Government School Construction as part of rehabilitation due to floods

In Brief

Aviratha constructed a Government lower primary school in Shalinganoor village of Gangavathi taluk in Koppala district. This venture was part of Aviratha’s North Karnataka Floor relief and Rehabilitation initiative, 2009-10. Shalinganoor , an interior village on banks of Tungabhadra river was submerged in floods of 2009, completely destructing school and other public infrastructure. Shalinganoor village was later shifted, where Aviratha built a new school for the government – modeled on a new eco-friendly design.

Brief note of Beneficiaries

Shalinganoor village is a small settlement located 40 KM from Gangavathi town. It is a border village of Koppala district overseeing Bellary and Raichur districts. About 70 families reside in this village with paddy cultivation being the major economic activity. The village is located on banks of Tungabhadra. During floods of 2009, Shalinganoor was completely submerged with significant loss of property and livestock. The village was later relocated to a higher point, around 3 KM from the old settlement.
